Chase.com down for > 12 hours

Going on now for at least 12 hours (point in time when I first tried the site -- but could have been much longer), Chase accounts are unavailable. They keep a rudimentary web site up so they don't get reported for being down - although to all intents and purposes they are down. Kinda rough if, like me, you signed up for their web-only account information and opted out of snail-mail communications ("to save money and be green") - looks like I'll be flipping that decison as soon as their site is back up for me to do so. Who takes as website offline for maintenance these days?

Update: August 9. Just received the following communication from Chase:

I am writing in response to your inquiry about not being
able to see your account information online.

Please be advised that we were experiencing technical
difficulties with our website. Our technicians have
corrected this issue and the website is now available
online. If you still face any difficulties, please call
our technical department on the number mentioned below.

I apologize for any trouble it may have caused to you.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

Thank You,

Vinay Shankar
E-mail Customer Service Representative

So Chase Customer Service says it was an unplanned outage; Chase Web-dev team say it was a planned outage. I asked them which one. I wonder if I'll even get the courtesy of a response ;-)

I used to have two Chase accounts: checking and credit card. I moved the checking over to BECU earlier this year. I saw the Chase maintenance message yesterday, thought it was ridiculous, and went to BECU's site. They were down, too. I guess even virtual bankers can't work weekends anymore.

I'm equally annoyed. I think they are lying when they say it is "scheduled" maintenance. If so, why wasn't it announced and why don't they have a posted schedule? I'm a software developer and I've never seen a professional website have scheduled maintenance without posting the downtime schedule. The fact that they have been down so long tells me they've got their hands full.

Wow, 12 hours! I have been trying to get on for the past 6. I knew something was wrong when it continued past 8 a.m. Wonder what happened.

I found this page via Google, and I am glad to see that BoomZilla is blogging about this outrageous incident. As a Chase customer, I personally experienced the incident. I alerted Byron Acohido, a reporter for USA Today. Unfortunately, Byron did not write a news story about it. However, I appreciate the fact that he emailed some info to me about the incident that he got from the Chase press relations department. The outage lasted about 15 hours. Chase online banking was not available to any customers from Saturday, August 7 at about 10:30 PM ET until Sunday, August 8 at about 1:30 PM ET. Chase told Byron that the entire 15-hour outage was scheduled in advance, but I question how truthful Chase is being about this matter.

Well, Chase is at it again. 'Maintenance' again. I've been trying for several hours. Their website message was "Scheduled Maintenance" and now it simply states that they are working hard to get it back up. HA

Chaseonline is out and has been for several hours. I tried late on Monday, Sept 13 and today, the 14th. The opening page says,

"This website is temporarily unavailable. We're working quickly to restore access, and we encourage you to log on later. Thanks for your patience."

Is this a frequent problem? I plan to use the site for most of my banking and bill paying.

Well...they're doing it again..seems to be down for at least 24 hours plus they plugged in a crap load of advertising before you can even see a logon request...

Makes a person wonder if they know what they are doing....
